This is the first year that I'm doing my taxes all by myself. (Usually I acquire the help of my father, and by that, I mean he filled them out). I'm using the QuickTax Online Web-Application instead of installing anything on my computer. After asking a million and a half questions to various people, and by reading a lot, I finally understand the fundamentals of paying taxes and using tax benefits with RRSPs. There are still some rules and exceptions which I'm still trying to gather information on, however.

The part that makes the whole thing humorous is that, every year, this process of number crunching, balancing, and exploiting rules and exceptions for benefits is shone into the face of every citizen like a bright spot light. It can potentially be very complicated! I'm surprised that there's not a better or easier method, but the more I think about it, I'm supposing that the cost of any easier method of tax collection is increased record keeping by our government, and who needs that?

Come to think about it, it's probably worth it.
