Some nerdly spammage for you.
Dapper Drake, also known as version 6.06 the
Ubuntu operating system has been released in all it's flavours. I am downloading it, and shall install it in the next few days. I shall do some house cleaning and backups beforehand though, just in case!
If you are interested in Linux, the *buntus are currently the cats pajamas. They have great community support (and even official support from
Canonical).
At any rate, there are a few different versions of the ubuntu system. Mainly I think the differences are in window managers:
Ubuntu is the standard release with
Gnome as it's desktop / windows-manager. This is my personal favourite manager, and is the version that I'm downloading and will install in the next few days.
Kubuntu uses
KDE as opposed to Gnome.
Xubuntu uses
Xfce as opposed to Gnome, and is apparently very lightweight. A good solid system for older or light machines!
Edubuntu is an education oriented platform. A good free operating system bundled with lots of eduacational softwares.
edit: I got rid of that image, it looked all horrible on any screen other than my home one.
