just checking in..

First off, theres great news on the employment front. After a few rounds of interviews these last few weeks, I got an offer for a 1 year contract in St. Johns. I accepted said offer. I will be working with a small R&D team (much like I have in the past, on my work terms) doing embedded software development, testing, perhaps hardware, or whatever needs to be done at the time.. The company seems friendly, and their projects seem to be pretty similar in technicality to things I have done in the past, so i'm really looking forward to the next year with them.

Aside, me and my brother had a discussion today about linux. Basically, he's shown some interest in checking out different OS's (away from windows) to use as a desktop.. My personal experience with linux is pretty limited.. I've used older versions of SUSE and red hat for brief times as desktops, and I've used knoppix a bit once for a development project at work. My own opinion of these distros, as a desktop OS, are they are all terrible. I wont go into details now. Anyways, I understand there are a lot more user-friendly distros to choose from now, such as Ubuntu and even the latest Fedora.. Anyhow.. I dug up this article for him which gives a very, very general look at todays major linux distros. A good read for someone who hasn't stepped into the world of open-source operating systems.
